Welcome to Shades of Magic Wiki! In order to maintain order and ensure uniformity, there are certain policies which have to be followed by every editor. The breaking of these rules will either lead to a warning or block.
For policies which apply to every wiki, please refer to Wikia:Category:Policy.
If you have any questions regarding these policies, contact an administrator.
Image policies
This wiki does not accept any images in .jpg/.jpeg format. Instead, every image has to be in .png format. The reason for that is that, .png is a "lossless format" .jpg is a "lossy format." This means that images in .png format, generally, have a better quality than images in .jpg format.[1][2][3]
Images uploaded in .jpg format will be quickly deleted and replaced with a .png version.
GIFs should not be used in mainspace articles but can be added to user pages and blog posts.
Official/fanart
This Wiki only allows official art and fanart regarded as official in mainspace articles:
- Book covers and official art from the publisher.
- Art from Andrea Olimpieri, the main illustrator of the Shades of Magic: The Steel Prince comics, as well as the other illustrators connected to the project.
- Art from Victoria Ying, the designer of the bonus cards for A Gathering of Shadows.
- Art from the designer of the character cut-outs (https://twitter.com/smaskvxn).
- Art from Lasq.draws, the designer of the character cards for The Fragile Threads of Power.
- Fanart included in the collector's editions of the Shades of Magic books.
Other fanart related to the Shades of Magic series and images unrelated to it, as long as they do not violate other image rules, may be added to user profile pages, blog posts, discussions, and such. These images have to be put in the Category:User images.
Naming rules
Every image has to possess a proper, clear, concise, and descriptive name. Images whose name is simply gibberish or are made of long strings of numbers will be deleted and, if needed, replaced.
- For book covers: [The book title's acronym (ADSOM, AGOS, ACOL)] [From which country is the cover? E.g. US/UK/Ukrainian/German/Polish] Cover.png
- Example: AGOS German Cover.png
- For images sorted into the Category:User images: [Your user name] [a brief description of the picture].png
- Any other images should be given a proper name as well.
Other rules
- Images are not allowed to contain pornographic, offensive, inappropriate, gory, and/or explicit content. Uploading such an image will result in the immediate deletion of it and a warning.
- Uploaded images which have not found any use (either in mainspace articles or user pages/blog posts/discussions/etc.) will be deleted after a while.
- Always upload images in the best quality available. If a higher quality duplicate of an existing file is found, the image of the lower quality will be replaced.
- Pictures should remain largely untouched. For example, they should not be stretched vertically or horizontally, and they should not have adjustments to the color and larger portions of the background should not be cut out.
- When adding images from the comics, please remove the dialogue/the text passages beforehand. This rule does not apply to official preview pages.
- You are only allowed to replace images if the one you are uploading is essentially identical to the image you are replacing and has a better quality. Do not replace images just because the name you have given to your file was already used.
Community policies
User attacks and discrimination are strictly prohibited. Treat others with respect and do not threaten, attack, or insult them for any reason. May it be wiki-related or personal.
This rule applies throughout the entire wiki—the discussions, the message walls, the editing.
All regarding parties will face consequences.
If you have any problems with a fellow user and/or you are unable to settle the conflict yourself, contact an administrator.
Discussions
Discussions is there to exchange yourself with fellow fans and/or editors.
Talk pages
Talk pages should only be used to discuss suggestions for the article's improvement. Discussions about the article's topic itself belong to the discussions.
Furthermore, it is required that every post made on a Talk page has to be signed with four tildes (~~~~), or by clicking the signature button, and that every new article discussion needs a heading accompanying it.
Vandalism and spam
"Vandalism is 'action involving deliberate destruction of or damage to public or private property.'"[4]
Wiki-wise, vandalism is the deliberate deletion of a lot of content, switching facts with gibberish, adding curse words, messing with code, and everything related to these things.
"There are three main types of spam on Wikipedia. These are: advertisements masquerading as articles and contributions to articles; external link spamming; and adding references with the aim of promoting the author or the work being referenced."[5]
Furthermore, spam can also mean the abuse of the image and video upload function, the excessive creation of unneeded, unnecessary articles, and everything related to it.
Keep in mind: If you engage in vandalism and spamming, you will receive a warning. If, after having received it, you continue to vandalize the wiki, you will either be warned one more time or be blocked afterward, depending on the severity of your actions. You may be blocked immediately and without warning if your first offense was severe and/or extensive enough to warrant it.
Fanon articles
The creation of fanon articles is considered spam if they were created as mainspace articles.
However, fanon articles are only allowed if they are created as user page subpages. Such pages have the following naming standard:
- User:[Your username]/[The name of the page you would like to create]
Please, refer to the image policies to find out how to name uploaded "personal" images.
Blocking policies
By editing this wiki, you are agreeing to our policies. Any violation of these policies will result in a warning first. If you, even after receiving a warning, still disregard the wiki's policies, you will be blocked. How long this block will last depends on the severity of the deed and especially severe cases might be blocked without a warning.
